California health officials believe new Omicron COVID variant has not reached the state

  • On November 28, the California Department of Public Health said that the Omicron variant of COVID-19 has not reached California yet
  • California officials urge anyone who has traveled to South Africa, Lesotho, Malawi, Nambia, Botswana, Eswatini, or Zimbabwe within the last 14 days to follow CDC guidelines and get tested 3-5 days after arrival in another country

LA Sheriffs Dept. finds 4 children and woman shot to death in home

  • According to a report from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, 4 children and a woman were found shot to death in a home 
  • The main suspect is a man believed to be the children’s father and is currently detained
  • The victims were discovered on the night of November 28, in the city of Lancaster 

New report shows that California is falling behind on creating affordable housing

  • According to the Southern California News group, cities and counties in the state didn’t permit enough housing last year to keep pace with production goals 
  • Housing permits that were approved also were not affordable for most residents
  • In 2020, about 109,000 housing permits were issued which is about ¾ of what was needed to issue to meet state mandates in regards to rpoviding housing for people of all income levels
