On September 2, Firefly Aerospace launched a rocket named the Alpha rocket from the central California coast at Vandenberg Space Force Base
At about 2.5 minutes of flight, Firefly reported that an “anomaly” had occurred during the first-stage ascent which led to the explosion of the rocket

A 7-year-old boy named David Pruitt has died about a week after swimming in a Tehama County-area lake where he contracted a rare brain-eating amoeba
According to the family, David was flown to UC Davis Medical Center on July 30 where he was diagnosed with “primary amebic meningoencephalitis (or PAM)
According to the Tehama County Health Services Agency, there have only been 10 PAM cases reported in California since 1971

Both Northern California and Utah have been announced thousands of evacuations due to intense wildfires
On August 15, Oregon firefighters announced that they had fully contained the Dixie Fire which had spread to more than 550,000 acres across 4 counties in Northern California

Despite its location near the Dixie Fire, at this point, the man has not been associated with its start on July 13

On August 11, Governor Gavin Newsom of California has announced that teachers and other school employees must either submit to regular Covid testing or receive the vaccine
School districts in San Francisco, Sacramento, Long Beach, and Oakland have already implemented the measure which covers a large portion of the state’s 300,000 teachers

Starting on August 11, all hospitals intermediate care facilities, and skilled nursing facilities will require visitors to show proof of full vaccination or a negative COVID test
This public health order was issued on August 5 and applies to all indoor visits and those unvaccinated must test negative for COVID-19 within 72 hours prior to the visit
