North Carolina judges have struck down the state’s latest photo voter identification law on Friday
Two of the three trial judges declared the December 2018 law is unconstitutional, even though it was designed to implement a photo voter ID mandate added to the North Carolina Constitution

Under a new law that was signed on Friday by Governor Kathy Hochul, New Yorkers will be able to avoid jail time for most nonviolent parole violations
Violations include: being late to an appointment with a parole officer, missing curfew, or failing to pay fees or to inform a parole officer of a change in employment
Starting in March, people on parole will be jailed only for drug or alcohol use if they were convicted of driving under the influence of those substances

In the proposed legislation, the minimum marriage age would increase from age 14 to 16 and limit the age difference between the child and their spouse to 4 years
Under current North Carolina law, children as young as 14 can get married if they become pregnant and if a judge allows it but children can wed as young as 16 with parental permission

An attempt at raising the minimum marriage age in North Carolina from 14 to 16 has come close to final legislative approval on August 11
As voted unanimously by the House, the action would also require a 16 or 17-year-old to obtain formal legal permission to marry and their spouses could be no more than 4 years younger
