California court ruling says drug companies not liable for the opioid crisis

• A California state judge ruled on November 1 that 4 drug companies cannot be held liable for the state’s opioid crisis
• The drug companies are Allergan, Endo, Johnson & Johnson, and Teca which were accused of using misleading marketing to push up the sale of prescription opioids
• Judge Peter J. Wilson said, “The Court finds that plaintiffs have failed to prove an actionable public nuisance for which defendants, or any of them, are legally liable,”

American Airlines Flight attended assaulted by California man

• A 20-year-old California man named Brian Hsu is facing criminal charges coming from the violent assault of an American Airlines flight attendant
• The flight was scheduled from New York to Orange County, California but was diverted to Denver after the alleged assault
• According to court documents, Hsu struck the attendant in the head multiple times between two separate instances

• A 24-year-old man named Dupree Kenneth Hornsby has been arrested by San Jose police after he was accused of breaking into a family’s home and raping an 8-year-old girl
• The alleged crime happened at the victim’s home on August 6 around 7:30 am where he reportedly sexually assaulted the girl 
• The suspect has been arraigned on August 10 where he faces life in prison if convicted of the crime

Lambda variant of COVID spreads in California 

• Aside from the contagious Delta variant of COVID, another variant named “lambda” now spreads in the state with at least 152 cases having already been reported
• Last year in 2020, the lambda variant had been first been reported in Peru and it continues to spread across South America
• According to the World Health Organization, lambda cases have been detected in 29 counties which include the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Spain

• This area that Google has purchased is a key component in assembling the land they need to develop an all new transit-oriented neighborhood
