The first death related to West Nile virus has been confirmed in California

  • Earlier this week, Public Health officials in California have confirmed the first death that is related to the West Nile virus in the state
  • This West Nile Virus related death happened in San Luis Obispo County and evidence suggests that the individual had gotten infected during travel to an area outside of the county
  • The virus spreads by mosquitos according to officials and people 50 years and older have a higher risk
