Black and Latino Californians have ramped up vaccinations but numbers still lag behind Asian and white residents

  • There is a large disparity between Black and Latino Vaccinations and Asian and White Vaccinations
  • Overall, public health officials have expressed that they’re glad to see state officials plan to reopen nearly everything June 15
  • Public health officials are also concerned that not enough vaccines are going to the hardest hit communities, who are often essential workers
  • Across the state, 39% of residents are Latinos and have almost 47% of all cases here
  • Latinos have also made up 50% of deaths and received only about 20% of the vaccines so far
  • The Black community makes up 6% of the state’s residents and has nearly 7% of the cases, 5% of the deaths, and only 3% has received the vaccine
