California’s plan for electric vehicles have both positive and negative impacts on the environment

- In California’s push for reducing emissions, they urge vehicle manufacturers to switch to electric cars by banning all new combustion engine sales by 2035
- As the demand for electric cars increases, so will demand for cobalt, lithium, manganese, nickel, and other battery materials
- The large amount of land required for obtaining these materials will largely affect wildlife and plant diversity
Shooter at California synagogue pleads guilty to deadly attack and sentenced to life in prison
- On April 27, 2019, a man named John T. Earnest opened fire at a Jewish synagogue – Chabad of Poway; one person was killed and others wounded
- After committing the act, John called 911 and told them that he was the shooter and that the Jewish people were “destroying the white race”
- He has been given a life sentence in prison with no possibility of parole with 2 additional sentences of 121 years and 16 years in prison
- Sentencing is currently scheduled for September 30, 2021
El Dorado California fire caused by couple at gender reveal party
- At a gender reveal on September 5, 2020, a couple named Manuel Jimenez Jr and Angela Renee Jimenez accidentally started a wildfire after staging their “gender reveal”
- The couple used a smoke-generating pyrotechnic device that was set off in a field at the El Dorado Ranch Park in Yucaipa
- Manuel and Angela have been charged with involuntary manslaughter after the fire took the life of a firefighter along with other felony and misdemeanor counts related to the fire
