California unemployment claims remain high despite new job additions
- Employers in California are hiring more and more people (a record-breaking pace) as the state’s unemployment claims remain high
- Since February, California has averaged more than 111,000 new jobs a month which has recovered about 58% of the 2.7 million lost in March and April of 2020 during the stay-at-home order
Northern California wildfires cause National Forest lands to close
- On Thursday, August 19, the U.S. Forest Service announced that on August 22, they will close nine national forests from Lake Tahoe at the Nevada border to the Six Rivers National Forest
- More than 650 firefighters and 13 helicopters, and air tankers have flown fire suppression missions there as conditions allowed, authorities said
- This area of land mentioned in the announcement is more than 1 million acres
