First wave of stranded California children and parents return home from Afghanistan

  • On August 25, A group from the California families stranded in Kabul returned to the United States, according to the Cajon Valley Union School District
  • The 24 children and 16 parents went to Afghanistan earlier this summer to visit extended family but were stranded when the Taliban seized control in the wake of the U.S. withdrawal

New California stimulus checks to begin next week

  • Beginning on September 1, eligible Californians will be receiving a Golden State Stimulus check with payment of up $1,100
  • To qualify, one must still live in the state and have been a resident for a majority of 2020; filed a 2020 tax return by October 15, 2021, have an SSN, or ITIN, cannot be claimed as a dependent by another taxpayer, and meet the income parameters
  • The financial eligibility requirements include a California adjusted gross income of $1 to $75,000
