Aerospace rocket launch by Firefly explodes after liftoff at Vandenberg Space Force Base
- On September 2, Firefly Aerospace launched a rocket named the Alpha rocket from the central California coast at Vandenberg Space Force Base
- At about 2.5 minutes of flight, Firefly reported that an “anomaly” had occurred during the first-stage ascent which led to the explosion of the rocket
- The rocket was 95 feet tall and was designed to launch with up to 2,200 pounds of payload into low Earth orbit
Dixie Fire Update: Fire coverage near 900,000 acres
- As of today, California’s second-largest wildfire ever recorded, The Dixie Fire has now surpassed 850,000 acres in terms of coverage
- The almost two-month-old blaze that started on July 14 near the Cresta Dam in Feather River Canyon now has a 55% containment, according to Cal Fire and the U.S. Forest Service
California lawmakers advance a bill that could take badges from bad officers
- Under a new bill advanced by California lawmakers on August 3, bad law enforcement officers could have their badges permanently taken away
- The police decertification bill would give the state’s Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training authority to revoke officers’ eligibility for dangerous misconduct
- The misconduct includes: using excessive force, sexual assault, intimidating witnesses, making a false arrest or report, or participating in a law enforcement gang
