California now requires proof of vaccination or negative COVID-19 test for large indoor events
- According to an announcement on August 18, by the California Department of Public Health, they say that residents will now be required to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test for indoor events that are larger than 1,000 people
- The previous requirement for events was that individuals show proof of vaccination or a negative test for more than 5,000 attendees
Small family and pet found dead in Sierra National Forest
- A Northern California family of three along with their pet dog were reported missing and later found dead on August 17 on a hiking trail in the Sierra National Forest
- The family of three was identified as John Gerrish, Ellen Chung, their 1-year-old daughter, Muji, and their dog
- Authorities have seen no clear cause of death which caused them to treat the area like a “hazmat scene” as it could be related to carbon monoxide
- Some fear a toxic algae bloom which cannot be rectified even by boiling water.
