U.S. Navy helicopter crashes near San Diego with 5 missing and 6 injured
- On August 31, a U.S. Navy helicopter crashed into the ocean off the Southern California coast near a Navy aircraft carrier, according to military officials
- According to a statement from the U.S. Navy’s Pacific fleet, shortly after the crash of the MH-60S helicopter, one sailor was rescued and taken to a hospital in San Diego where he is in “stable condition”
- As of September 1, it is noted that 5 others have been injured and another 5 are still missing
California Community colleges report 65,000 applications flagged as fake
- Officials from California’s 116 community colleges have found more than 65,000 fake financial aid applications and believe them to be apart of an attempted financial aid scam
- According to a report from the LA Times, they found that most of the fake applications were from first time applicants older than 30 and who earned less than $40,000
