California bill proposes return of Los Angeles beachfront land to its rightful descendants
- On Thursday, September 9, the California state Senate unanimously passed a bill that would allow Los Angeles County to return beachfront land to the descendants of its rightful owners
- The land originally belonged to two black owners named Willa and Charles Bruce from 1912 to the early 1920s and they ran a resort that catered to black people
- In 1924, the property was seized by the city of Manhattan Beach as they condemned black-owned lots
