New California law aims to fix wait times for those who need therapy

  • A new law signed by Governor Gavin Newsom in late October aims to fix the problems of long wait times for those who need to see a therapist in regards to their mental health
  • Senate Bill 221, requires health insurers across California to reduce the wait times for mental health care to be no more than 10 business days

Adults in California now allowed to make appointments for COVID vaccine booster

  • As of November 18, California updated its guidance regarding the COVID-19 booster vaccinations and will now allow all adults to sign up for appointments to receive the shot
  • Those included in this new guidance are anyone over 18 years old and will have to have waited at least 6 months since getting the Moderna or Pfizer vaccines to receive the shot
  • Those who received the Johnson and Johnson vaccine, only have to wait 2 months to receive the booster  

Legislative Analyst thinks California will have a $31B budget surplus

  • According to California’s independent Legislative Analyst’s Office, the state is on track to rack up a $31 billion budget surplus
  • This surplus could require Governor Newsom and state lawmakers to either cut taxes or spend more money on infrastructure 
  • The budget proposal for what to do with the surplus will not be released by Governor Newsom until January
