SoCal West Hollywood considers increasing the minimum wage to $17.64/hour
- The West Hollywood City Council reportedly has plans to raise the minimum wage to $17.64 from $13, which marks the highest in the country
- The highest minimum wage currently is $17.13 in Emeryville, California
Police to return to school campuses after Pomona, California school board vote
- In the last week of October, A California school board voted to bring police back to campuses after it removed police from school grounds just a few months earlier
- The previous choice to remove law enforcement from school grounds was made as the council argued that the funds should be spent on student aids, such as mental health
California man convicted of 2nd-degree murder after drunk driving caused deadly crash
- On August 23, 2018, a 26-year-old man named Irving Abel Aguilar-Calixto crashed on a Southern California freeway while drunk which killed a 24-year-old mother and injured 5 others
- On November 2, Irving was convicted of driving under the influence and causing great bodily injury and will be sentenced in December 2021
Long Beach College introduces Safe parking Program to aid homeless students
- In an announcement on November 1, Long Beach City College will allow homeless students to sleep in their vehicles at a secure on-campus parking structure overnight
- This program is called the “Safe Parking Program” and allows homeless students with access to the restroom and Wi-Fi throughout the night and allow them to use the shows at the Pacific Coast Campus in the mornings
SoCal Edison transitions customers to new rate plans that charge more during 4-9 pm
- Beginning in sometime during November 2021, Southern California Edison will transition to their new “time-of-use” rate plans that charge more for electricity during peak hours
- These peak hours will be between 4 pm to 9 pm and will affect those in Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernadino, Riverside, and Ventura counties
